4 week course: Thursday evenings | 18:00 – 20:00

Explore the possibilities of laser cutting technology with this 4 week long evening course. Join experienced designer maker Angela of Earlob, who will guide you through every step of the process, from navigating software to create vector artwork – to working safely with equipment – and exploring different materials and common construction techniques. 

Each week you will take home a finished sample, with space in week 4 to create your own final bespoke laser cut project. Through 3 example projects you will gain hands-on understanding of the settings and possibilities for laser cutting and etching across different materials. Projects incorporate sheet wood, acrylic plastics, paper and natural materials such as slate and stone.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Safely operate the laser cutter and extraction systems
• Prepare vector files ready for laser cutting using Ethos, Shaper Trace, Adobe Illustrator and Fresco software.
• Understand special lines and the basics of engraving on multiple materials
• Utilise construction techniques like designing wood joints

• 8 hours of guidance and support on laser cutting software and equipment
• All materials are provided
