Screen Printing Courses
PRINT YOUR OWN TOTE BAG
Saturday Workshop | 10:00 – 13:00 | £60
Learn the basics of the art of screen printing on fabric with print designer, Katie Charleson. In this 3 hour workshop you will learn the basic techniques of printing, including mixing inks and binders and using a screen to transfer your chosen designs onto textiles. You’ll be given a selection of pre-made designs to work with, which you will customise with your own colours and the name(s) of your choice.
Become inspired through colours, shapes and mark making and come away with your own screen printed fair trade tote!
INTRODUCTION TO SCREEN PRINTING
Saturday Workshop | 10:00 – 16:00 | £125
Screen-printing on textiles is a simple and accessible technique for producing a repeated pattern or image onto fabric using layers of coloured ink to build the design, allowing a variety of marks, patterns and images to produce really exciting results. Join print designer, Katie Charleson, on this full day course (with 1 hour lunch) and get an introduction to the key techniques involved in screen printing textiles.
You’ll have the opportunity to play with colour, create your own designs and you’ll go away with 3 x your own personalised and printed tote bags, t-shirts or tea towels.
SCREEN PRINT & SEW YOUR OWN APRON
Weekend Workshop | 10:00 – 16:00 | £250
Join Print Designer, Katie Charleson, and Seamstress, Nicola Milazzo, for this weekend course to screen print your own designs onto fabric to turn into an apron. You’ll get an introduction to the key techniques involved in screen printing textiles, pattern cutting and sewing with a machine. Saturday will be spent in Katie’s Print Space coming up with your own repeat design and playing with colour. You’ll be shown the essentials of screen printing and you’ll finish the day with 1.5m of linen printed with your own pattern to take into Nicola’s sewing masterclass on Sunday.
Nicola and Katie will be on hand to give you tips and tricks of the trade and offer 1-2-1 advice specific to what you’d like to achieve in your project, so you leave super inspired and ready to take your work to the next stage!
INTRODUCTION TO LASER CUTTING
Weekend Workshop | 10:30 – 17:00 | £195
Join artist, Jenny Smith, on this weekend introduction to the key techniques involved in laser cutting. In this hands-on course you will learn a number of different ways to prepare vector files and laser cut and etch your images onto paper, card, acrylic, fabric and wood. Bring a drawing, quotation and photographic image and learn how to prepare, cut and/or etch these images. This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability; the emphasis is on introducing you to the full potential of the laser cutter and providing the opportunity to complete a small personal project.
INTRODUCTION TO FINE WOODWORKING
Wednesday Evenings, 6 weeks | 18:00 – 21:00 | £350
Build a handmade stool with a carved seat based on simple, elegant Japanese design while working with fine furniture maker, Anna of Aln Furniture. This course is designed for beginners or those with a grip on the basics looking to improve their craft. Participants will learn basic furniture design, tool, and machine use, and traditional woodworking skills. At the end of the course, Anna is on hand to offer advice on your next project so that you can keep making even after the course has finished. All materials for the stool are included.
MAKE YOUR OWN FURNITURE
Tuesdays Evenings, 8 weeks | 18:00 – 21:00 | £330
Working with experienced carpenters and builders, participants will gain confidence in the use of workshop machinery and tools to create their own specific project. Come with a project in mind and get advice on creating a plan for making, ordering materials (cost of materials not included in course fee), and guidance when needed to complete the project within the course.
INTRODUCTION TO WELDING
Wednesday Evenings, 4 weeks | 18:00 – 20:00 | £220
The course is designed to give the beginner a good grounding in welding theory and practice, typical welding joints and application. Lots of practical training using the MIG welding process, with overview of alternative systems such as TIG, Stick (arc) welding and Gas welding. The course takes you through various welding techniques, from preparation, though cutting, angle grinder use, safety to giving you the basic skills to be flexible and competent in building welded structures, whether artistic and decorative or repair based projects.
