Curious about machine knitting? Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refresh your skills, this hands-on introduction will give you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of knitting on a domestic knitting machine.
Working with experienced knitter Lucy, you’ll discover how knitting machines work, what they’re capable of, and how they can be used to create everything from fashion and accessories to textiles and creative sampling. Lucy brings her passion for sustainable fashion and textile innovation, encouraging experimentation while building confidence with the machine.
Using Brother knitting machines, you’ll gain practical experience in setting up and operating the machine safely, understanding tension, and troubleshooting common issues. By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of sample swatches, a greater understanding of machine knitting techniques, and the confidence to continue exploring this versatile textile craft.
You’ll cover:
- Casting on
- Casting off
- Knitting stripes
- Increasing and decreasing stitches to shape your fabric
- Creating lace holes
- Ladders
- Experimental textures
COURSE FEE COVERS
- 6 hours of guidance and support with machine knitting.
- All knitting machines, yarns and materials are provided, along with technical notes to take home so you can continue practising after the course.
