Designed for a variety of skill levels, our courses and workshops are led by EOW team members, including master carpenters, welders, designers, and other partnered makers. To help you choose the course that is best for you, we’ve tiered our courses into four levels:
Beginner | these cover the very basics of a skill/craft/medium, these are often skill specific rather than projects, with materials provided for practice
Novice | these apply the basics of a skill/craft/medium to a small, pre-designed project

WOODWORKING COURSES
BASICS OF WOODWORKING
Monday Evenings, 4 Weeks

Ready for your first date with woodworking? Join designer and furniture maker, Kirsty of Fine Piece, to learn the basics of woodworking, as you practice your new skills on a simple box, and picture frame. This course is designed to be an introduction to woodworking for those that have always wanted to give it a try, and not had the time or space. Participants will get an introduction to drawing plans, using woodworking tools and machinery, carpentry techniques and gain skills and confidence in a workshop setting.

Ever wanted to try your hand at woodturning? Learn the basics of turning using a wood lathe while creating your own rolling pin or doorstop! Join Kirsty & Becka, the minds behind Fine Piece, and get an introduction to using a wood lathe and chisel to turn a block of wood into beautiful hand turned shapes. Participants will leave with the skills to turn on the lathe independently as well as guidance on what their next project could be. All materials are included, no experience required.

Build a handmade stool with a carved seat based on simple, elegant Japanese design while working with fine furniture maker, Anna of Aln Furniture. This course is designed for beginners or those with a grip on the basics looking to improve their craft. Participants will learn basic furniture design, tool, and machine use, and traditional woodworking skills. At the end of the course, Anna is on hand to offer advice on your next project so that you can keep making even after the course has finished. All materials for the stool are included.

GARDEN FURNITURE

Ready to spruce up your patio? Come learn and work alongside experienced carpenters and builders, to create bespoke garden/patio furniture for your home. You can make a planter, a bench, small table, or mix and match – maybe make a bench that is also a planter! Once you’ve chosen a project, you will be given a design and guidance to make any adjustments needed for your space. Gain confidence in workshop machinery and tools, and the ability to plan future projects solo.

Designed for folk that have some experience with woodworking, this course will help you put your skills to work creating a new piece of furniture, and gain confidence using professional machinery. Come with your dream project and get advice on creating a design plan, ordering materials (cost of materials not included in fee), and guidance to complete your project. Size and scale of projects may either be limited to be completed within the the 8 course weeks, or suggestions given on how best to complete the project after the course has finished.

METALWORK COURSES
BASICS OF WELDING
Tuesdays OR Wednesday Evenings, 4 weeks

The course is designed to give the beginner a good grounding in welding theory and practice, typical welding joints and application. Lots of practical training using the MIG welding process, with overview of alternative systems such as TIG, Stick (arc) welding and Gas welding. The course takes you through various welding techniques, from preparation, though cutting, angle grinder use, safety to giving you the basic skills to be flexible and competent in building welded structures, whether artistic and decorative or repair based projects.

The induction is designed to go over the basic practices of welding in an individual session. This can be guided toward those who already have experience in welding to develop their knowledge, or those who are looking to get to grips with their kit. There is no project outcome for this course.
